The case for core ETFs

Core ETFs may serve as foundational building blocks for investment portfolios. Research has shown that asset allocation decisions themselves whether to domestic equity, foreign equity, or fixed income are responsible for over 90% of a diversified portfolios return variation through time.1 Core ETFs can help access this main driver of investment return with ease, by acting as efficient tools to capture broad market returns (beta) from major asset classes.
Other ways to use core ETFs in your portfolio
Portfolio diversification: Core ETFs provide broad market exposure across major asset classes and can complement focused portfolios of stocks and bonds, offering diversification benefits and mitigating concentration risk.
Tactical allocation: Core ETFs are designed to offer high liquidity and low transaction costs, making them ideal for tactical allocation within a portfolio. For example, investors can quickly reallocate between stocks and bonds, foreign and domestic holdings, and short or long duration as market conditions evolve.
Fee budgeting: Over the long term, even small differences in fund management fees can compound significantly. By incorporating low-cost core ETFs into a portfolio, investors can effectively budget for fees and save more of what they earn.
