At RBC Global Asset Management (RBC GAM), we believe diverse teams lead to better outcomes for our clients. We celebrate the growing number of women entering our industry through the Women in Asset Management (WAM) program. GAM supports this program in partnership with Ivey Business School at Western University.
The program aims to introduce women to opportunities in the asset management industry early in their career planning.
“The goal of the program has been to increase, participation of women in investment management and in particular in investment decision making roles,” says Dagmara Fijalkowski, Managing Director, Senior Portfolio Manager & Head of Global Fixed Income & Currencies and Chair of the Advisory Council for the WAM program. “It creates ripples of positivity towards women in asset management, and raises awareness about lack of representation, specifically in investment management and portfolio management roles.”
Ivey’s Women in Asset Management summer program allows students to participate in a 14-week, immersive program that includes classroom learning and a paid internship, exclusively to second-year university students who self-identify as women. The 2024 cohort expanded the pool of candidates beyond Ivey to include applicants from any Canadian university.
Historically, women have been overwhelmingly underrepresented, especially in senior investment decision-making roles1; Ivey’s Women in Asset Management Program hopes to change that. “It is our hope, that through this program, more women will learn about career opportunities in the investment industry, and design an educational path towards their goal of joining the industry,” says Dagmara.
