Opening doors for women in asset management

At RBC Global Asset Management (RBC GAM), we believe diverse teams lead to better the outcomes for our clients. We celebrate the growing number of women entering our industry through the Women in Asset Management (WAM) program. GAM supports this program in partnership with Ivey Business School at Western University.

The program introduces women to opportunities in the asset management industry early in their career planning.

“The WAM program is an opportunity to introduce young women early in their university years to asset management,” says Dagmara Fijalkowski, Head, Global Fixed Income and Currencies, and Chair of the Advisory Council for the WAM program. “Like law, accounting, medicine or other professions, becoming a portfolio manager requires one to plan their educational path early.”

RBC GAM has committed to a three-year partnership with the WAM program. Students participate in a 14-week, immersive program that includes classroom learning and a paid internship. The 2023 cohort expanded the pool of candidates beyond Ivey to include applicants from McGill University. The program will continue to expand 2024

“You know the saying, ‘You have to see her to be her.’ My hope for these students, and the next cohort of WAM interns is that they help motivate their peers and make strides throughout their careers to help increase the number of women on investment teams,” says Dagmara. “We will be keeping track of the graduates as they complete their formal studies. We believe the WAM program will be successful if over the next three to five years, the graduates take steps that put them on a career path toward asset management.”
